An Overview of our Language Programmes
Japanese isn't a difficult language to learn - if you have the right teacher to help you along the way. The Japan Society is pleased to offer classes at a variety of levels. The classes can be held at our downtown (Adelaide & Bay) or at your office. Please call us for a custom-made class designed for your company's needs.
Communicative Japanese 1
If this is your first time studying Japanese, you may want to start with a brief introduction to communicative Japanese. This course will cover the first 10 chapters of "Communicative Japanese for International Businesspeople". You will learn vocabulary and sentence structures for introducing yourself, asking for basic personal and professional information, and talking on the telephone.
Communicative Japanese 2
This course covers chapters 11 to 20 in "Communicative Japanese for International Businesspeople". You will learn how to ask and answer questions, express numbers and dates, and explain your professional title.
Hiragana & Katakana
In this course you will learn the two main syllabaries of the Japanese language. This is a recommended pre-requisite to the following three courses.
Beginning Grammar Course
This course is designed to formalize the students' understanding of Japanese structure and usage. Using the text "Minna no Nihongo", the students will cover basic grammar patterns involving nouns, verbs, adjectives, and particles.
Intermediate Course
By this stage, the students have a fair grasp of the two main syllabaries (hiragana and katakana) and are able to express their ideas in both written and spoken form. The course will use the second volume of "Minna no Nihongo" to further develop fluency.
Advanced Course
This course is designed for students who are able to speak, understand, read, and write Japanese to a fair degree. The content and flow of the course will be decided after reviewing the students' needs and abilities.
Recommended Pattern
If this is your first time studying Japanese and you would like to get a sense of the language, we recommend starting with the Communicative courses.
If you have studied Japanese before, or you are already familiar with hiragana and katakana, please start at the Beginner Grammar Course level.
