Japan Joins Canada in Security Certification Agreement Over IT Products
The Japanese government plans to join the Common Criteria Recognition Arrangement (CCRA) by the end of this month. Sixteen nations, including Canada, are already signatories of the CCRA, an international agreement designed to mutually certify the security and safety of information technology products and systems. To date, approximately 150 products worldwide are certified under this arrangement, such as communications software and data encryption. To sell their products to signatory governments, Japanese firms must have the security of their products certified by special agencies, which can be a lengthy process. Joining and using the same standards as the CCRA will reduce both the time and cost of the certification process.
