Ontario’s Economic Development Minister on Auto Investment Trade Mission in Japan
Joseph Cordiano, Ontario’s Economic Development and Trade Minister, is in Japan this week for a five-day auto investment mission. The goal of the mission is to attract automotive investment to Ontario in order to strengthen the province’s automotive sector. During his visit, Minister Cordiano will meet with Japanese auto industry leaders and a number of auto assemblers and parts manufacturers. Tri-Vision Licenses V-Chip Technology to Panasonic and JVC
Tri-Vision International Ltd., a Toronto-based company which licenses patented V-chip technology, announced that it has signed a non-exclusive licence with Osaka-based Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. and Victor Company of Japan Ltd., of Yokohama for its Canadian patent and an option to license its US patent. The agreement covers all television sets and other electronic equipment, which use or may use V-chip, produced for sale in Canada through the expiration of the patent in 2016. Matsushita Electric is a consumer electronics maker with brands such as Panasonic, Quasar and Technics. Victor Company of Japan, also known as JVC, is an international electronics company. Jipangu Inc. Acquires 50% Interest in J-Pacific's Nevada Gold Properties
Vancouver-based J-Pacific Gold Inc., signed a letter of intent with Japan-based Jipangu Inc., giving Jipangu a 50% interest in J-Pacific’s Golden Trend and HC properties in Nevada. Jipangu can earn the interest in the projects by funding exploration activities worth US$2.75 million for the Golden Trend project and US$1.75 million for the HC property over a four-year period. Asian Ethnic Business Associations Facilitate Canada-Asia Trade and Investment
A new database on Asian Canadian business has revealed the importance of ethnic business associations in facilitating Canada-Asia trade and investment. Created by the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada, the online directory provides key information on 125 Asian ethnic business associations across Canada. The database is searchable by keywords, including ethnic affiliation, industry sector, geographic focus and location. It also includes a listing of major Canada-Asia bilateral business organizations that are not necessarily organized along ethnic lines. Japan's Spinnaker Systems Joins Elliptic Semiconductor's Partners' Program
Elliptic Semiconductor, an Ottawa-based company that provides semiconductor products for low power designs of packet offload and security processing for wireless handheld devices, announced that Japan's Spinnaker Systems has become a member of the Elliptic Alliance Partner Program (EAPP). Canada's COFI and Japanese Building Association Successful in Reclassification Effort
Wooden buildings that are four stories or more in height will soon be permitted in Japan thanks to joint efforts by the Japan 2x4 Home Builders Association and Canada's Council of Forest Industries (COFI). The two associations conducted fire experiments that resulted in the reclassification of 2x4 wood structures from 'semi-fire resistant' to 'fire resistant,' thereby allowing taller structures such as hotels and apartments. The Japanese Economy: A Return to Confidence? - Luncheon Meeting
The Japan Society with The Toronto Japanese Association of Commerce & Industry (Shokokai) will host a Luncheon Meeting with Guest Speaker, Ambassador Robert Wright, Ambassador of Canada to Japan.
With the latest GDP figures showing that the Japanese economy grew at its fastest rate in 13 years, one needs to wonder whether, in fact, this economic recovery is real, or more or the same "Japanomics".
