This event is organized by Ontario Ministry of International Trade.
In April 2016, the Japanese electricity market was fully opened to retail-level competition. This brought significant change to one of the largest power market in the world (18 trillion Yen or C$212billion - bigger than de-regulated market in U.S.A) that had previously been dominated by 10 power utilities, each of which had held a regional monopoly over retail electricity sales.
Since then, 400+ new Japanese companies and a number of foreign companies have registered to become electricity retailers, and 13% of households have changed their electricity suppliers.
Given the size of the Japanese electricity market and the relatively high electricity prices in Japan, further interest in the market from foreign electricity retailers is expected.
Ontario Ministry of International Trade has invited speakers from Kanden System Solutions Co., Inc. (KSS), an affiliate company of Kansai Electric Power, the second largest utility in Japan, to explain about opportunities in Japan’s retail electricity market, and to answer questions regarding market entry.
Ontario companies (utilities, smart grid and IT services who have interest in the Japanese power retail market are invited to the seminar.
