Chicago-based musicians Hiroko Nagahata (pianist) and Alexa Muhly (cellist), known together as Irving Artists, released their self-produced album Irving  on October 9, 2019. The album will be available for purchase on CD and download from CDBaby, iTunes, Amazon.com. Self-released through their own Six Corner Records, Irving Artists functions as a chamber group with a ‘flexible format’.

Cellist ALEXA MUHLY holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music and a Master of Music degree from the Yale School of Music. She has performed extensively in the United States, Canada, England, France, Germany, Hungary, and Lithuania, and is an active orchestral and chamber musician in the Chicago area. She was principal cellist of the Kalamazoo Symphony for three seasons, and has served as principal cellist for the Chicago Chamber Orchestra. In addition to performing music from the cello’s traditional repertoire, Muhly also enjoys championing music by living composers, and she was the cellist for the Michigan-based contemporary music ensemble Opus 21, winner of the 2006 CMA/ASCAP Adventurous Programming Award. Performance highlights included an invitation to appear on the Carnegie Presents series with internationally renowned American composer and pianist Frederic Rzewski, and a performance for Chamber Music America’s national conference. 

A native of Japan, HIROKO NAGAHATA (hirokopiano.webs.com) has performed internationally for solo and chamber music. She was a Special Presentation Award winner of the Artists International Audition and made her New York solo recital debut at Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall in 2009. She has accompanied renowned organizations such as the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Choirs of America, and Chinese Fine Arts Society among many others. Nagahata received a Doctor of Music Degree from Michigan State University, a Master of Music degree from the Manhattan School of Music, and a Bachelor of Music Degree from Kobe College.
