The Japan Society and Torys LLP hosted a panel and reception themed on the innovation agenda on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, in Toronto.

We were fortunate to have Mr. Simon Kennedy, Deputy Minister of Innovation, Science, and Economic Development Canada, and Mr. Fatih Yedikardeş, Country Manager of Daiichi Sankyo Pharma Canada/The Japan Society Sustaining Member, as panelists, with Ms. Eileen McMahon, Partner and Chair of Torys’ Intellectual Property, Life Sciences, and Food and Drug Regulatory practices, serving as the moderator.

The first half of the program featured a panel with lively discussions covering Canadian innovation, industrial policy, and Canada’s strategically important relationship with Japan, with highlights of Daiichi Sankyo's pathways to enter the Canadian market.

Following the fireside chat, we transitioned to a reception adorned with a touch of Sakura - Japanese cherry blossom - where guests enjoyed cocktails and sushi, fostering great networking opportunities.

At the conclusion of the evening, Mr. Nick Nagai, Vice President of Yusen Logistics (Canada) Inc., was announced as the winner of the lucky draw and was presented with "Nameless Flower," a calligraphy work by Waterloo-based Mrs. Noriko Maeda, a Shodo artist from Japan.

We extend our gratitude to our speakers and guests for their participation and valuable insights. Additionally, we thank our supporters for their contributions in making this event possible.
