George Brown College Fashion Exchange is excited to announce a Kimono Upcycling Workshop for sustainability enthusiasts, cultural and historical costume aficionados, and those who are interested to learn more about this traditional Japanese style of dress.
The workshop will be taught by Hana Nishimura, a historian and contemporary kimono designer from Kyoto, Japan. Hana Nishimura collected authentic vintage Japanese kimonos and compiled the personal stories from their original owners to share with us along with perspective of the importance of the kimono in Japanese culture. Workshop attendees will have the opportunity to select a kimono, learn about the heritage and upcycle it to a new modern clothing item.
Dates of this three day workshop are Friday, January 25th (5-7 pm), Saturday, January 26th (10am-5pm) and Saturday, February 2nd (10am-5pm), 2019.
