On August 18, 2026, the Japan Society hosted a casual Lunch & Connect gathering at Chefs Hall in downtown Toronto.

The event welcomed 20-participants from a broad cross-section of the business and professional community. Industries represented included international trade, technology, financial services, recruitment, healthcare, construction, manufacturing, consulting, and other professional services. Participants engaged in Canada–Japan trade and business relations were also part of the gathering.

The informal lunch provided an opportunity for attendees to make new connections, renew existing relationships, share ideas, and learn about the work and interests of professionals from different sectors. By bringing together participants with varied industry backgrounds, the event encouraged dialogue beyond traditional sector boundaries and supported the Japan Society’s mission of strengthening ties between Canada and Japan.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the gathering a meaningful opportunity for connection and exchange.

Please stay tuned for more business seminars coming up in the fall.

The Japan Society is proud to support “Go Team Japan! Soccer Public Viewings at the JCCC,” a series of three community watch parties in Toronto celebrating Japan’s journey at the 2026 World Cup in North and Central America. Co-hosted by the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre (JCCC) and J Athletics Canada, the events bring fans together to cheer on Samurai Blue as they face the Netherlands, Tunisia, and Sweden. Each matchday features interactive games, raffle prizes, a beer garden, food and marketplace vendors, and music, creating an inclusive and family-friendly environment for all ages.

All three events quickly reached maximum capacity, underscoring the strong enthusiasm for Japanese football and the growing global profile of Team Japan. This initiative has been made possible through the dedication of JCCC volunteers, the broader J Athletics Canada community at home and abroad, and the generous support of many local partners and corporate sponsors. The Japan Society is honored to contribute to this collaborative effort and to help foster deeper cultural and community ties through the power of sport.

Founded in 2024, the Japanese Canadian Lawyers Association (JCLA) exists to connect and support Japanese Canadian lawyers, judges, and other legal professionals across generations and practice areas. The JCLA brings together individuals of Japanese heritage — including Issei, Nisei, Sansei, Yonsei, and mixed-heritage professionals — as well as legal professionals who have studied or trained in Japan and those who work in Japanese. Through networking, mentorship, and community engagement, the JCLA fosters meaningful connections within the legal profession while advancing diversity, inclusion, and collaboration in Canada’s legal community. For businesses, industry and other professionals, JCLA also maintains a growing public directory of members, including areas of legal practice and jurisdiction (https://jcla.ca/member-directory/Members).

Members of the Japan Society and their networks are warmly invited to connect, collaborate, or become involved with JCLA’s initiatives. To learn more or connect, please visit JCLA’s website at https://jcla.ca/ or contact Caitlin Ohama-Darcus at cohamadarcus@lawsonlundell.com.
